The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Calvin College Knight Invitational on Saturday morning.
The women's team placed seventh of 25 teams and the men finished fifth of 28.
Sophomore Sam Merriman (Middlesex, Vt./U-32) finished first for the Spartan men taking eighth place crossing the line with a final time of 25:30.30. Junior Galen Caldwell (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) finished 21st with a time of 26:00.70. Senior Ben Davis (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) stopped the clock with a time of 26:13.60 for 36th place overall, while senior Timothy Travitz (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) stopped the clock for a time of 26:32.60 and 52nd place followed by senior Tony Spalding (South Bend, Ind./Marian) for a time of 26:35.20 for 53rd. Senior Gilad Doron (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) and sophomore Aidan DeSanto (McCordsville, Ind./Cathedral) rounded out the scoring for the Spartans finishing 61st and 68th overall with times of 26:42.90 and 26:53.60, respectively.
Senior Kelsey Aamoth (Solon, Ohio/Ohio) led the Spartan women with a third place finish overall, crossing the finish line with a time of 18:05.70. Sohpomore Danielle Kulpins (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) crossed the line with a time of 19:08.00 for 37th and senior Dana Jeter (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) finished next with a time of 19:13.50 for 43rd. Senior Evy Hail (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River) and senior Juliana Ross (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) finished with times of 19:20.70 and 19:34.60, for 49th and 56th overall. Senior Veronica Cole (Lakewood, Ohio / Lakewood) finished in 19:36.30 for 58th place and Kristen Ruckstuhl (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), who rounded out the scoring contingent for the Spartans in 19:39.50, for 62nd place.
The Spartans return to the course on Saturday, September 19 at Penn-State Behrend for a 11:00 a.m. race.
