GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior co-captain David Dixon (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) placed fourth individually to earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship Meet as the Case Western Reserve University men's cross country team placed seventh of 35 teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship at Gainey Athletic Complex.
Now a two-time all-region performer in his career, Dixon finished the 8k course in 25:17.2 amongst the 252 runners in the field. By placing in the top seven individuals not on the top two teams, Dixon is guaranteed an at-large berth to the NCAA Championship next Saturday, November 23 at 12:00 p.m. in Hanover, Indiana. Dixon placed 137th at last year's NCAA Championship Meet in Terre Haute, Indiana.
No. 20 nationally ranked Wabash College (Ind.) won the team title with 60 points and four of the top 15 finishers. No. 18 and host Calvin College (Mich.) was second at 79 points and will join Wabash with automatic bids to nationals.
The Spartans finished with 253 markers.
After Dixon, sophomore Timothy Travitz (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) was next to cross the line with a 46th-place time of 26:18.5. Senior co-captain Wyatt Hoch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) was third for the Spartans in 53rd place and a time of 26:21.7.
