GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 33 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University men's cross country team placed fifth overall of 27 teams and third amongst Division III programs at the 2013 Knight Invitational hosted by Calvin College on Saturday afternoon at the Gainey Athletic Complex.
NAIA schools took the top two spots with University of St. Francis (Ill.) first at 42 points and Aquinas College (Mich.) second with 74. No. 9 Calvin was the top DIII school at 142 markers, while No. 29 Manchester College (Ind.) was next at 147.
The entire Spartan scoring lineup recorded personal bests and totaled 169 points.
Senior co-captain David Dixon (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) was the team's top finisher in 12th place with a time of 25:28.0. Sophomore Timothy Travitz (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) was next across the line in 27th place in 25:47.00, and senior co-captain Wyatt Hoch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) was 34th in 25:55.20.
The Spartans will have plenty of time to prepare for their next competitive meet, the All-Ohio Championship, which will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4 at Cedarville University. The only run prior to the All-Ohio in three weeks is the annual Alumni Meet at 10:00 a.m. on September 28 at Squire Valleevue Farm.
