HUNTING VALLEY, Ohio – Senior co-captains Ethan Teare (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) and Chris Kelly (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) finished second and third, respectively, to lead the Case Western Reserve University men's cross country team to a runner-up finish at the 12th Annual Bill Sudeck Classic at Squire Valleevue Farm.
Teare, who finished 11th during last year's meet, crossed the line in 19:44.80. Kelly, the individual champion from a year ago, finished in 19:48.40.
Allegheny College (Pa.), ranked No. 15 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason national poll, won the team title with 26 points. Case wasn't far behind with 29.
In addition to Teare and Kelly, a trio of Spartans rounded out the scoring and claimed places seven through nine overall. Senior Phil Yeung (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) was seventh (20:21.70), junior David Dixon (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) raced home in eighth (20:23.30) and freshman Timothy Travitz (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) was ninth (20:25.50).
The Spartans return to action next Saturday, September 8 at the Knight Invitational at Calvin College (Mich.) at 10:00 a.m.
The Sudeck Classic is named in honor of legendary former coach and CWRU Hall of Famer, Bill Sudeck, who passed away in August of 2000.
