The Case Western Reserve University men's and women' track and field teams competed at the 2020 All-Ohio Indoor Championships at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio on Saturday.
The Spartan men finished second out of 17 teams with 84 points, while the women finished in ninth place with 29 points. Mount Union won on the men's side with 155.5 points, and also won the women's portion with 119.5 points.
Junior Trey Razanauskas highlighted the Spartans performances, as he placed first in the 5,000-meter run. Razanauskas claimed the title in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:55.27. In addition, first-year Jack Begley placed third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:07.41, while senior Grant McCarthy finished fifth with a time of 15:07.76.
The men's distance medley relay team of senior Jonathan Haling, senior Michael Hradesky, sophomore Logan Singer and first-year Joe Jaster claimed a second-place finish in the event with a time of 10:24.19. Haling and Hradesky also teamed with senior Dominic Oddo and first-year Keith Roberts in the 4x400-meter relay to place fourth with a time of 3;27.29.
Hradesky earned a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.99, while senior David Hall finished second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:46.14. Oddo registered a third-place finish in the long jump (6.89m) and junior Jordan Butler placed fifth in the long jump (6.61m).
Additionally, Butler finished fourth in the triple jump (13.43m), Singer placed fourth in the mile-run (4:22.06) and Jaster finished fifth in the mile-run (4:27.84).
For the women on Saturday, senior Samantha Kelts placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.71 meters, while senior Julie Hines finished fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.48.
Additionally, the women's distance medley relay team of junior Madison Vargo, sophomore Grace Bentley, sophomore Kiera Olson and first-year Melissa Phung finished third in the event with a time of 12:56.47. Hines and Bentley also teamed with first-year Mia Kilroy and first-year Kemi Ogundiran to place fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:11.58.
The Spartans were also in action on Friday, with a group competing at the Mid-February Meet, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. The men finished ninth out of 14 teams with 35 points, while the women placed ninth out of 15 teams with 22 points.
Sophomore Juan Perez led the men as he placed third in the 55-meter dash with a new school record time of 6.57. That time breaks the previous school record of 6.62 set by former Spartan Nathaniel Wahner in 2017. Other men recording top-five finishes at the meet included graduate student Tyler Bushman in the weight throw (fifth, 14.03m), junior Luke Traverso in the pole vault (fourth, 3.66m), junior Ryan Burns in the pole vault (fifth, 3.51m) and senior Andrew Green in the 3,00-meter run (fifth, 9:00.93).
Top-five finishes for the women came from sophomore Maddy Nacci in the 3,000-meter run (second, 11:22.13), junior Eleanor Gaddy in the shot put (fifth, 11.39m) and first-year Victoria Zhao in the pole vault (fifth, 3.05m).
The Spartans will be back in action next weekend as they head to the Kent State Tune Up at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio on Saturday, February 22nd.
