Case Western Reserve University senior Dominic Oddo was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for men's field, following his performance at the Wide Track Classic, hosted by Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan this past weekend.
Oddo finished third out of eight competitors in the men's heptathlon, as he totaled 4,513 points in the event. On the first day, Oddo earned a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.67 meters (736 points), placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 10.76 meters (531 points), tied for fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters (544 points) and finished sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.57 (690 points). He totaled 2,501 points after the first day of competition. On Saturday, Oddo placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.87 (775 points), finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.50 meters (482 points) and placed second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:51.03 (755 points). Oddo's score of 4,513 points in the heptathlon currently ranks second in the UAA and 18th among all Division III competitors.
This was Oddo's seventh UAA Athlete of the Week honor of his career.
The Spartans track and field teams are back in action this Friday, February 14th as they travel to Berea, Ohio for the Mid-February Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University.
