
The Case Western Reserve University men's track and field team concluded the 2019 outdoor season with many noteworthy performances, compiling 10 All-UAA honors at the University Athletic Association Championships, setting three program records and qualifying two individuals for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The Spartans capped off their outdoor season by sending two athletes to the 2019 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio. Sophomore Trey Razanauskas competed in the in the 5,000-meter run and placed ninth in the event with a time of 15:06.97. Junior Dominic Oddo also competed at the outdoor championships and earned a 14th place finish in the decathlon as he posted a score of 6.455 points.
Five Spartans also received All-Great Lakes Region recognition from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), based on their performances during the season. Spartans receiving All-Region honors included Oddo, Razanuaskas, junior Jonathan Haling, junior Brian Holden and senior Ananth Suresh. Oddo in the decathlon, Razanauskas in the 10,000-meter run, 5,000-meter run and 1,500-meter run, Haling in the 400-meter dash, Holden in the javelin throw and Suresh in the triple jump.
Razanauskas finished second in the region and 14th in Division III with a school-record time of 14:24.91 in the 5,000-meter run, recorded at the Dr. Keeler Invitational on May 16th. He also finished second in the region and 47th in Division III with a time of 3:54.57 in the 1,500-meter run, recorded at the Great Lakes Elite Meet. Razanauskas rounded his All-Region honors by finishing fourth in the region and 35th in Division III with a time of 30:49.55 in the 10,000-meter run, recorded at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships on April 13th.
Haling was third in the region and 34th in Division III with a time of 48.48 in the 400-meter dash, set at the Gregory Invitational. Holden was third among Great Lakes competitors and 20th in Division III with a school record mark of 59.54 meters in the javelin throw, recorded at the UAA Outdoor Championships on April 27th. Oddo was second in the region and 13th in Division III with a score of 6,487 points in the decathlon, set at the Gregory Invitational. Suresh finished second in the region and 21st in Division III with a season-best mark of 14.47 meters in the triple jump, set at the Gregory Invitational.
At the 2019 UAA Championships, hosted by Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, Razanauskas, Suresh and Holden highlighted a group of 10 All-UAA honors for the Spartans. Razanauakas finished first in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:14.76, and also added a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:02.42. Suresh hit a mark of 14.34 meters in the finals of the triple jump to win the UAA title in the event, while Holden hit a new school-record mark of 59.54 meters in the javelin throw to the UAA title in the event.
In addition, Holden placed third in the hammer throw with a toss 48.33 meters. Oddo finished second in the long jump with a mark of 6.83 meters and placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.54 seconds, while junior Grant McCarthy added an All-UAA honor in the 10,000-meter run after finishing third in the event with a time of 31:41.93.
Adding All-UAA finishes during the two-day meet were the men's 4x800-meter relay team of freshman Logan Singer, sophomore Thomas Patton, freshman Spencer Weigand and junior Michael Hradesky, and the men's 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Juan Perez, Hradesky, senior Joseph Cabral and Haling. The 4x800-meter relay team placed third in the event with a new school record time of 7:47.49, which broke the previous school record of 7:53.00 set back in 2016. The 4x400-meter relay team added a third-place finish in the event with a time of 3:17.77.
In addition to their work on the track and field, 25 members of the Case Western Reserve men's outdoor track and field team received Spring UAA All-Academic recognition.
