CWRU Track & Field to Compete in Final Meets before NCAA’s

The Case Western Reserve University track and field team will be split between a pair of meets this week as the team makes a final run at NCAA qualifying marks, with seven athletes heading to North Central College in Naperville, Illinois for the Gregory Invitational, and two others scheduled to be in action at the Great Lakes Final Qualifying Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.

Seniors Shannon Carroll and Olivia Newman, and juniors Jonathan Haling and Dominic Oddo will compete in the multi-events at the Gregory Invitational on Wednesday, May 15th and Thursday, May 16th. Carroll and Newman will be entered in the women's heptathlon, while Haling and Oddo will be part of the field for the men's decathlon.

The heptathlon will begin at 10:00 a.m. CT on Wednesday, with the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash all taking part on day one.  It will continue on Thursday at 10:00 AM CT with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run.  The decathlon is slated for a 10:15 a.m. CT start on Wednesday, with scheduled events including the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meter dash.  It will conclude on Thursday, starting at 9:45 a.m. CT, with the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500-meter run.

In addition, graduate student Cassandra Laios, senior Ananth Suresh, junior Michael Hradesky and freshman Logan Singer will also be competing at Gregory Invitational on Wednesday and Thursday. Laios enters the meet ranked first in Division III in the hammer throw (55.96m), seventh in the shot put (14.20m) and 15th in the discus (45.11m), while Suresh ranks 27th in the triple jump (14.34m).

Scheduled to compete for CWRU at the Great Lakes Final Qualifying Meet on Thursday, May 16th are junior Abbey Waltz and sophomore Trey Razanauskas. Razanauskas currently ranks 14th in the 5,000-meter run (14:24.91) and 35th in the 10,000-meter run (30:49.55), while Waltz ranks 45th in the pole vault (3.55m).

Thursday is the final day to record a qualifying mark for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, to be held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio on May 23rd-25th. The 20 men and 22 women with the best marks in each event will receive an invitation to compete at the National Championship meet.

The final list of participants for the NCAA Division III Championships is scheduled to be posted to by 9:00 a.m. eastern time on Saturday, May 18th. A full release with CWRU's selections will be posted to shortly following the NCAA's announcement.
