Laios & Oddo Claim Spartans’ UAA Athlete of the Week Honors

Case Western Reserve University graduate student thrower Cassandra Laios and junior multi-event competitor Dominic Oddo were named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's and women's field events, following their performances this past weekend.

Laios set a new school-record in the hammer throw at the Bob Kahn Invitational in Oberlin, Ohio. She hit a mark of 54.52 meters in the event, which bested her previous school record of 54.16 meters set last weekend. In addition, Laios also claimed first in the shot put (13.37m) and second in the discus (40.19m). Her mark of 54.52 meters in the hammer currently ranks first in both the University Athletic Association and all of Division III. Laios also currently has the 10th-best mark in Division III in the shot put (13.48m), which was recorded at the Carnegie Mellon Quad Meet last weekend.

This was the 15th UAA Athlete of the Week honor of her career.

Oddo claimed first-place in the men's decathlon at the 2019 Outdoor All-Ohio Combined Event Championships this past weekend in New Concord, Ohio. Oddo finished first with a total of 6,097 points, which currently ranks first in the UAA and sixth among all Division III competitors. Oddo earned four first-place finishes and also added two second-place finishes during the two-day meet. He placed first in the long jump with a mark of 6.31 meters (655 points), first in the high jump (1.85m, 670 points), first in the discus (28.05m, 426 points) and first in the javelin (43.38m, 491 points). Oddo's second-place finishes came in the 100-meter dash (11.34, 786 points) and the pole vault (3.74m, 546 points). Oddo's first-place finish in the decathlon earned him five points, which will be included towards the Outdoor All-Ohio Division III Championships this Saturday, April 13th.

This was his fifth UAA Athlete of the Week honor of his career.

Case Western Reserve will be back in Delaware, Ohio on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University this weekend, competing at the 2019 Outdoor All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, April 13th.
