The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams competed at two meets on Saturday, with the men's and women's track athletes competing at the Marv Frye Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, and the men's and women's throwers competing at the Bob Kahn Invitational, hosted by Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
At the Marv Frye Invite, the Spartan men tallied nine top-three finishes at the meet as they finished first out of 10 teams scored with 121 points. The women gathered five top-three finishes and totaled 67.50 points to place sixth at the meet.
Sophomore Jordan Butler and senior Ananth Suresh led the Case Western men, as Butler claimed the title in the long jump and Suresh earned the title in the triple jump. Butler hit a mark of 6.73 meters in the long jump to place first in the event and also added a third-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.78 meters. Suresh placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 13.89 meters and then he also placed third in the long jump with a mark of 6.44 meters.
The CWR men's 4x100-meter relay team of junior Darius Inzar, sophomore Musa Hakim Jr., freshman Corey King and freshman Juan Perez also added a third place finish in the event with a time of 44.01. In addition, junior Michael Hradesky gathered a first-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.46.
Other top performers for the Spartan men at the Marv Frye meet came from junior Mitchell Webb in the 110-meter hurdles, (second, 16.17), freshman Logan Singer in the 800-meter run (second, 1:56.65) and junior Jonathan Haling in the 200-meter dash (second, 22.47).
Top performers for the Spartan women came from junior Brianna Rees in the 400-meter dash (second, 1:01.04), sophomore Olivia Battistoni in the 5,000-meter run (second, 19:05.63), senior Jennifer Hoffmann in the 1,500-meter run (second, 4:55.57), sophomore Kiera Olson in the 1,500-meter run (third, 4:57.70) and freshman Kathryn LeMoine in the triple jump (third, 9.81m).
At the Bob Kahn Invitational, the Spartan women totaled six top-five finishes at the meet.
Graduate student Cassandra Laios claimed the titles in the hammer and shot put, while also placing second in the discus. Laios won the hammer with a toss of 54.52 meters, which once again sets a new school record as she breaks her previous school record of 54.16 meters set last weekend. She placed first in the shot put with mark of 13.37 meters and finished second in the discus with a toss of 40.19 meters.
Senior Shannon Carroll also tallied a first-place finish, as she claimed the title in the javelin with a mark of 36.04 meters. She also added a fourth-place finish in the shot put (11.25m), while sophomore Emma Hammelef finished fourth in the discus (35.50m).
Case Western Reserve will be back in Delaware next weekend, competing at the 2019 Outdoor All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, April 13th.
