Laios & Oddo Wrap-Up Competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships

Case Western Reserve University graduate student Cassandra Laios and junior Dominic Oddo each concluded competition at the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

A day removed from placing fourth in the weight throw, Laios narrowly missed her second all-America honor of the meet, finishing ninth overall in the shot put.  Her throw of record came on her first attempt of the day, as she hit a mark of 13.54 meters, good enough to qualify her for finals.  However, she was unable to better the mark, and finished just one spot out of all-America honors.

Laios' five points scored on Friday helped the Spartans place in a tie for 43rd-place at the meet.

After entering the day in 17th place in the heptathlon with 2,585 points during the first day of competition, Oddo opened the second day of the event with a time of 8.80 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, good for second in his heat and eighth overall, and adding 791 points to his score.  However, he was unable to add any points in the pole vault, and despite posting a time of 2:53.48 in the 1,000-meter run for another 730 points, placed 18th overall with a score of 4,106.

With the 2019 indoor track and field season now in the books, the Spartans will turn their attention towards the outdoor campaign, which will kick off next weekend at the Washington & Lee Track Carnival in Lexington, Virginia on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16.
