Case Western Reserve University junior Dominic Oddo was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for men's field, following his performance at the 2019 Polar Bear Last Chance Meet, hosted by Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio this past weekend.
Oddo set a new school-record in the men's heptathlon with a score of 4,709 points. His 4,709 points broke his previous school record of 4,615 points set at the 2018 All-Ohio Division III Multi-Events Championships. Oddo placed second in four of the seven events throughout the two-day meet. He claimed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.37 (755 points) and also earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.65 meters (732 points). Oddo placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.79 (793 points) and then finished second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:57.59 (688 points). Oddo also added a third-place finish in the pole vault (3.80m, 562 points), finished tied for fourth in the high jump (1.81m, 636 points) and placed fifth in the shot put (10.95m, 543 points).
This was Oddo's fifth UAA Athlete of the Week honor of his career.
Oddo, graduate student Cassandra Laios and sophomore Trey Razanauskas will now prepare for the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships that will be held on March 8th-9th in Boston, Massachusetts. All events will be held at the Reggie Lewis Center on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Boston.
