Highlighting the Spartan performances on Saturday, senior Ananth Suresh set a new school record in the triple jump as the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams finished competition at the Kent State Tune Up in Kent, Ohio.
Suresh placed 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 13.43 meters, which breaks the previous school record of 13.41 meters set by Alan Fetters during the 1998 indoor season.
The Spartan men also earned a third-place finish and two eighth-place finishes at the meet, as junior Michael Hradesky finished third in the 1,000-meter run (2:33.89), sophomore Jordan Butler placed eighth in the high jump (1.84m) and sophomore Luke Traverso earned an eighth place finish in the pole vault (4.00m).
Junior Abby Waltz led the Spartan women on Saturday, as she placed first in the pole vault with a mark of 3.40 meters.
Also with strong performances for the Spartan women, graduate student Cassandra Laios finished sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 17.38 meters and also added a ninth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.93 meters.
Junior Shahed Eid placed sixth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:06.00, while junior Vanessa Pasadyn earned a 10th place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.72. Senior Jennifer Hoffmann added a 10th place finish in the one-mile run with a time of 5:19.47.
The Spartans were also in action on Friday, with a group of throwers competing at the Rick Meindl Last Call Meet hosted by Capital University in Bexley, Ohio. The men finished seventh out of eight teams with nine points, while the women also placed seventh out of eight teams with 24 points.
For the women, sophomore Taylor Jackson earned a second-place finish in the shot put (11.85m) and a second-place finish in the weight throw (14.39m). Junior Melissa Cuellar added a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 11.32 meters and senior Marina Yu claimed a fifth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 13.73 meters.
Case Western Reserve will now prepare to travel to Waltham, Massachusetts for the 2019 University Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships from February 23rd – 24th on the campus of Brandeis University.
