Highlighting the Spartan performances on Saturday, graduate student Cassandra Laios finished second in the weight throw as the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams finished competition at the YSU Icebreaker in Youngstown, Ohio.
Finishing second in the event, Laios hit a mark of 16.90 meters. In addition, she also earned a fifth place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.79 meters.
Also with strong performances for the Spartan women, junior Shahed Eid finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run (3:12.42) and junior Samantha Kelts placed 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 10.52 meters.
Senior Olivia Newman finished 17th in the qualifying round of the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.28, while sophomore Julie Hines placed 29th in 400-meter dash (60.97) and 41st in the 200-meter dash (27.37).
The Spartan men earned three top-ten finishes at the meet, as junior Michael Hradesky finished fifth in the 800-meter run (1:56.02), junior Jonathan Haling placed eighth in the 400-meter dash (49.50) and senior Ananth Suresh finished ninth in the triple jump (12.69m).
In addition, junior Dominic Oddo earned a tie for 13th in the pole vault with a mark of 3.83 meters and placed 14th in the long jump with a distance of 6.43 meters. Freshman Logan Singer placed 18th in the 800-meter run (2:00.55), junior Brian Holden finished 18th in the weight throw (12.30m) and Suresh placed 31st in the long jump (5.80m).
Case Western Reserve will resume competition in the new year, with a road meet on Saturday, January 19th at the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.
