Senior Andrew Ibibo, sophomore Michael Hradesky and senior Cassandra Laios of the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams set new school records in their respective events on the final day of the Kent State Golden Gala.
Ibibo finished fourth in the 300-meter dash with a time of 35.64, which bests the previous school record of 36.19 set by Andre Christian in 1994. In addition, sophomore Jonathan Haling placed eight in the event with a time of 36.15.
Hradesky finished third in the 1,000-meter run with a school record time of 2:33.46, besting the previous school record of 2:34.56, set by former Spartan Joe Ledger last season.
Laios finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 14.09 meters, which bests her previous school record of 13.65 meters set last weekend at the Fifth-Annual Spartan Holiday Classic. Freshman Emma Hammelef also placed 20th in the event with a mark of 10.42 meters.
The Spartan men were also strong in the long jump at the meet, as sophomore Dominic Oddo placed 10th in the event with a mark of 6.36 meters and junior Ananth Suresh finished 15th with a mark of 5.79 meters.
The men also turned in a ninth-place in the 400-meter dash as senior Grant Mlack crossed the finish line in a time of 51.42.
Adding a seventh-place finish was the 4x400-meter relay team of Ibibo, Hradesky, Oddo and Haling with a time of 3:25.10.
For the Spartan women, the 4x400-meter relay team of junior Olivia Newman, sophomore Brianna Rees, sophomore Shahed Eid and sophomore Maria King placed 10th in the event with a time of 4:08.51.
In addition, sophomore Samantha Kelts place sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.87 meters, while senior Rachel Willard finished 10th with a mark of 10.26 meters.
The Spartans will resume competition in the new year, with a road meet on Saturday, January 20th at the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.
