The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams are prepared to travel to Kent, Ohio for the Kent State Golden Gala from Friday, December 8th through Saturday, December 9th in the Kent State Field House.
The Spartans are looking forward to another weekend of competition after last Saturday's season-opening meet. The men's team finished first out of the six teams at the meet, while the women placed second.
Standout performances from senior Cassandra Laios and sophomore Dominic Oddo highlighted the Spartans field. Laios finished second in the shot put with a mark of 13.65 meters, which broke her previous school record of 12.64 meters set last indoor season. Oddo broke the school record in the long jump with a mark of 6.97 meters, which bests the previous school record of 6.69 meters set by Andrew Barnhart in 2012.
The Spartans will be sending 18 athletes to the meet, where they are slated to compete against mostly NCAA Division I and II competition. Currently scheduled to be in action at the meet for the CWRU women are senior Skylar Braga, senior Nimi Gupta, freshman Emma Hammelef, sophomore Samantha Kelts, sophomore Maria King, senior Marie-Louise Kloster, Laios, junior Olivia Newman, sophomore Brianna Rees and senior Rachel Willard. The Spartan men will be competing are junior Tyler Bushman, sophomore Jonathan Haling, sophomore Michael Hradesky, senior Andrew Ibibo senior Grant Mlack, Oddo, junior Ananth Suresh and senior Ben Zelkin.
