Case Western Reserve University sophomore multi-event competitor Dominic Oddo and senior thrower Cassandra Laios were named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the week for men's and women's field events and sophomore sprinter Michael Hradesky was named UAA Athlete of the Week for men's track, following their performances at the Fifth-Annual Spartan Holiday Classic in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday.
Oddo broke the school record in the long jump with a mark of 6.97 meters, which bests the previous school record of 6.69 meters set by Andrew Barnhart in 2012. He also claimed a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.94) and a third-place finish in the high jump (1.82 meters). Oddo's mark of 6.97 meters in the long jump currently ranks first in University Athletic Association, while his time of 8.77 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles ranks third in the UAA and his mark of 1.82 meters in the high jump ranks second. This was the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor of Oddo's career.
Hradesky earned a first-place finish in the 800-meter run after crossing the finish line in a career-best time of 1:58.03. His time in the 800-meter run also currently ranks first in the UAA. This is the first UAA Athlete of the Week of Hradesky's career.
Laios finished second in the shot put with a mark of 13.65 meters, which broke her previous school record of 12.64 meters set last indoor season. She also added a third-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 15.77 meters. Laios' mark of 13.65 meters in the shot put and her mark of 15.77 meters in the weight throw currently rank first in the UAA. This was Laios' sixth career UAA Athlete of the Week honor.
The Spartans will continue their indoor season this Friday and Saturday, as they travel to Kent, Ohio for the Kent State Golden Gala.
