Case Western Reserve University senior Nathaniel Wahner was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for men's track, following his performance at the Great Lakes Elite Meet, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University, in Delaware, Ohio on Thursday.
Wahner set a school record in the 200-meter dash, finishing second in the event with a time of 21.43 seconds. That time bested Wahner's previous school-record time of 21.64 seconds, which was set at the UAA Outdoor Championships. That time currently ranks first in the UAA and 17th in Division III. Wahner also claimed the title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.11 seconds.
Wahner was also a member of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished fifth in the event with a time of 42.51 seconds. This was his fourth UAA Athlete of the Week honor of his career.
Wahner and the men's 4x400-meter relay team of junior Andrew Ibibo, sophomore Joseph Cabral and freshman Jonathan Haling will now prepare for the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will be held on May 25th-27th in Geneva, Ohio. Wahner will be competing individually in the 200 meter-dash and 400-meter dash, while also running the anchor of the 4x400-meter relay.
