Track & Field in Action at Two Meets on Friday

The Case Western Reserve University track and field team will continue its march towards the NCAA Division III Championships later this month, as the squad will be split between a pair meets this weekend, heading to the Gator Invitational at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and the Harrison Dillard Twilight at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio on Friday, May 12th.

Three Spartans will be running in the distance events at the Gator Invitational, with freshman Vanessa Pasadyn competing in both the 800-meter run and 1,500-meter run at 4:20 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., respectively, senior Galen Caldwell competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 5:30 p.m., and junior Sam Merriman competing in the 5,000-meter run at 7:25 p.m.

Merriman is currently ranked 20th in Division III in the 5,000-meter run, while Caldwell is 36th in the steeplechase.

Slated to compete at the Harrison Dillard Twilight for the Spartan men are seniors Joe Ledger and Nico Ericksen-Deriso, junior Grant Mlack, sophomore's Tyler Bushman and Ananth Suresh, freshmen Brian Holden, Dominic Oddo, Sam Jenkins, Justin Thomas, the 4x100-meter relay team of senior Nathaniel Wahner, juniors Adrian Cannon, Zak Hurd and Ben Zelkin, and the 4x400-meter relay team of Wahner, junior Andrew Ibibo, sophomore Joseph Cabral and freshman Jonathan Haling. Scheduled to be in action for the CWRU women are junior Rachel Willard and sophomores Shannon Carroll and Olivia Newman.

Wahner is currently ranked 6th in Division III in the 400-meter dash (47.64), 14th in the 100-meter dash (10.67) and 25th in the 200-meter dash (21.64), the 4x400-meter relay is ranked 15th (3:15.98), Oddo is 32nd in the long jump (7.09m), Mlack is 36th in the 400-meter hurdles (54.35) and Newman is 46th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.77).

Field events at the Harrison Dillard Twilight will begin at 2:00 p.m., while running events will begin at 4:15 p.m. Full results and a recap of the Spartans performances at both meets will be posted to athletics.case.edu following the completion of competition.
