This weekend, members of the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams will either be competing in the Mid-February Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University or the 2017 Division III All-Ohio Championships.
The Mid-February Meet will take place on Friday, February 10th at the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse, while the All-Ohio Championships are on Saturday, February 11th at Otterbein University in the Clements Recreation and Fitness Center (Running & Jumping Events) and The Rike Center (Throwing Events).
Last season, the men's team finished 11th out of 15 teams at the Mid-February Meet and sixth out of 17 teams at the All-Ohio Championships, while the women finished fourth of 13 at Baldwin Wallace and ninth of 17 at Otterbein.
Last weekend, the Spartans competed at the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University where senior Nathaniel Wahner and junior Cassandra Laios highlighted a number of strong performances.
Wahner tallied three-first place finishes, winning the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.17, then took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.80 and ended with a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.13. He also teamed with junior Adrian Cannon, freshman Jonathan Haling and senior Nico Ericksen-Deriso to place second in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:31.17.
Laios continued her strong performances in the shot put so far this season hitting her furthest mark of 12.64 meters (a new school-record) to finish fourth in the event. She also added a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 14.89 meters. Laios' furthest throw of 12.64 meters in the shot put is currently tied for the 41st best throw in all of Division III.
Other top finishers for the Spartan women included senior Temi Omilabu in the weight throw (third, 15:03 meters) and freshman Bailey Flint in the high jump (third, 1.52 meters).
The BW Mid-February Meet is set to begin with field events at 4:00 p.m. with running events to follow at 5:00 p.m. For more meet information, CLICK HERE.
