The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams are prepared to travel to Geneva, Ohio for the 2017 SPIRE Invitational on Saturday, January 21st hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in the SPIRE Performance facility.
The Spartans are looking forward to another weekend of competition after last competing at the Kent State Golden Gala from December 9th-10th. The men's and women's teams combined to send 18 athletes to the meet.
Standout performances from senior sprinter Nathaniel Wahner and senior thrower Temi Omilabu highlighted the Spartan field. Wahner broke the school record in the 200-meter dash en route to placing seventh out of 31 competitors on the final day of the Gala. Omilabu led the Spartan women with a ninth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 15.42 meters.
Two Spartan women, junior Nimi Gupta and junior Cassandra Laios, also competed in the weight throw, finishing 15th and 16th, respectively. Gupta hit a career-best mark of 13.85 meters, while Laios recorded a throw of 13.79 meters. Sophomore distance runner Joseph Cabral finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.52, which now ranks second in program history.
