Spartans to Compete at All-Ohio Championships on Saturday

The Case Western Reserve University track and field team will head back to Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio for the second-straight weekend, as the Spartans will compete in the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships on Saturday, April 16th.

The All-Ohio Championships will feature competition from the majority of NCAA Division III programs in the State of Ohio, with the top-three finishers in each event earning All-Ohio honors.  The meet will also serve a dual-purpose for the Spartans, who will be looking to tune-up for the University Athletic Association Championships in St. Louis on April 23rd and 24th.

Field events at the meet are scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start on Saturday, with action on the track beginning at noon.  The final event of the day, the 4x400-meter relay, is slated for an 8:05 p.m. start.  Fans unable to attend the meet can follow all of the action with live results at

Last season, the Case Western Reserve men finished sixth out of 20 teams, while the women placed eighth out of 20.  Last season, senior Kelsey Aamoth claimed an All-Ohio Championship in the women's 5,000-meter run with a meet-record time of 17:20.52, while senior Kristen Ruckstuhl added an All-Ohio honor with a third-place finish in the event.  Other returning All-Ohio finishers from last year's meet for the Spartans include junior Galen Caldwell (third in the men's 1,500m run), junior Joe Ledger (third in the men's 1,500m run) and sophomore Danielle Kulpins (third in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase).

The men have six individuals and a relay that are ranked in the top-five in Ohio entering the meet, including senior Benjamin Davis, who has the top 10,000-meter run time of the year.  Sophomore Grant Mlack is third in Ohio in the 110-meter hurdles and second in the 400-meter hurdles, while other top-five ranked competitors for the CWRU men include Ledger in the 800m run (fifth), sophomore Sam Merriman in the 5,000-meter run (fourth), Caldwell and senior Chippy Kennedy in the 3,000-meter run (fourth and fifth, respectively), junior Pat Shober in the javelin throw (fifth) and the Spartans' 4x400-meter relay (second).

Top-five ranked competitors in Ohio for the Spartan women heading into the meet include freshman Olivia Newman in the 400-meter dash (fifth), senior Taylor O'Neil in the 800-meter run (fourth), Aamoth and Ruckstuhl in the 5,000-meter run (third and fourth, respectively), and Kulpins and senior Evy Hail in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (second and fifth, respectively).
