Spartans Change Weekend Plans; Will Now Head to Wooster Invite

The Case Western Reserve University track and field team altered its plans for competition this weekend, and will now bring the full squad to the College of Wooster Invitational in Wooster, Ohio on Friday, April 1st and Saturday, April 2nd.

The Spartans will attend the meet in place of the originally-scheduled VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, North Carolina.

Fans can follow the live results at the meet at http://timerhub.com/get_web_index.php?page=onthemarktiming.com/past_results/results.2016/woosterO16/. Action will begin on Friday at 3:00 p.m. with the hammer throw, javelin, high jump, 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run being held during the first day of the meet.  The rest of the events at the Wooster Invitational will be held on Saturday, with field events starting at 11:00 a.m., and track events beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a rolling schedule.

Case Western Reserve is coming off a strong performance at the 21st-Annual Dick Small Invitational last weekend, with both the men and the women finishing first in the team standings at the meet.

Currently, nine different Spartans have registered marks that rank among the top-20 competitors in Division III this season.  For the women, sophomore Danielle Kulpins is fifth in Division III with a time of 11:17.91 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while senior Evy Hail is 12th with a time of 11:36.76 in the event.  In the 5,000-meter run, senior Kelsey Aamoth is 12th with a time of 17:444.63, and senior Kristen Ruckstuhl is 19th with a mark of 17:51.54.  In addition, sophomore Cassandra Laios is ranked 19th nationally in the shot put with a throw of 12.08 meters.

For the men, sophomore Grant Mlack, who has been named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for Men's Track each of the past two weeks, is sixth among NCAA Division III competitors in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.27 seconds.  In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Sam Merriman is seventh with a time of 14:53.38, and junior Galen Caldwell is 18th with a mark of 15:07.06, with senior Benjamin Davis checking in at 14th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:06.03.
