CWRU Track & Field to Compete at the Dick Small Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University track and field team will continue its outdoor campaign this weekend, when the team travels to Defiance, Ohio for the 21st-Annual Dick Small Invitational, hosted by Defiance College on Saturday, March 26th.

Action on Saturday is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m., with the 10,000-meter run on the track, in addition to a slew of field events.  Following the 10,000-meter run, a rolling-schedule format will be followed for the remainder of the day.  The meet will also feature a team-scoring format.

After one week of competition in the outdoor season, the Spartans totaled 16 marks that rank among the top-10 in Division III this year.  Sophomore Grant Mlack registered a pair at the W&L Carnival last weekend, with a time of 55.86 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles (ninth in Division III) and 15.59 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles (12th in DIII).  Senior Benjamin Davis is fourth in Division III with a time of 32:006.03 in the 1,000-meter run, while sophomore Sam Merriman is sixth (14:53.38) and junior Galen Caldwell 15th (14:53.38) in the 5,000-meter run.  Other top-25 DIII times run by the Spartan men came from junior Joe Ledger in the 800-meter run (12th, 1:55.89), senior Chippy Kennedy in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (14th, 9:53.29), sophomore Aidan DeSanto in the 1,500-meter run (19th, 4:02.39) and the CWRU 4x400-meter relay of Mlack, sophomore Andrew Ibibo, freshman Joseph Cabral and junior Nathaniel Wahner (10th, 3:23.02).

For the women, sophomore Danielle Kulpins set a school record and ranks fourth nationally in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:17.91, and senior Evy Hail is 10th in the event with a mark of 11:36.76.  In the 5,000-meter run, senior Kelsey Aamoth is eighth nationally with a time of 17:44.63, and senior Kristen Ruckstuhl is 15th with a mark of 17:51.54.  Senior Emily Harker is ninth in the high jump with a mark of 1.56 meters, while freshman Olivia Newman is 16th in the 400-meter run with a time of 59.41 seconds, and is a part of CWRU's 16th-ranked 4x400-meter relay, along with junior Abby Casalnova, freshman Maria DeRenzo and senior Taylor O'Neil (4:06.94).
