Spartan Men Finish Fourth on Final Day of Outdoor UAA Championship

ATLANTA - The Case Western Reserve University men's track and field team finished fourth overall with 105.5 points at the 2015 University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Emory University at the Woodruff P.E. Center.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team took the title as junior Jonathan Freeman (Houston, Texas/Awty International School), Nico Ericksen-Deriso (Boulder, Colo./Boulder), junior Devon Belew (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill) and sophomore Nathaniel Wahner (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) crossed the finish line with a time of 3:19.90.

In the finals of the 100-meter dash, Freeman and freshman Zak Hurd (Perry, Ohio/Perry) finished with times of 11.07 and 11.11 for fifth and sixth place, respectively. Freeman also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash crossing the finish line with a time of 22.85.

Ericksen-Deriso and Belew added points to the Spartans tally finishing fifth and seventh in the 400-meter dash with times of 49.72 and 49.90, respectively.

Sophomore Joe Ledger (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.59, while Wahner finished eighth in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.94.

In the high jump, sophomore Graeham Heil (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) finished second clearing the bar set at 1.91 meters. Also in the high jump, junior Josh Malone (Berea, Ohio/Berea) and senior Garrett Gustafson (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) finished tied for fifth and seventh each clearing the bar at 1.81 meters. Heil also finished seventh in the triple jump after a best jump of 13.23 meters. 

Senior Sam Reusser (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 40.40 meters while junior Nicholas Heim (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) and senior Toby Kilroy (Lexington, Mass./Boston University Academy) finished seventh and eighth with tosses of 37.44 meters and 36.24 meters, respectively. Kilroy also finished second in the javelin throw with a toss of 53.31 meters. Also in the javelin, freshman Pat Shober (New Castle, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) finished eighth with a mark of 50.22 meters. 

The Spartans will begin their postseason stretch beginning on Friday, May 8 at the Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.
