BEREA, Ohio - The Case Western Reserve University men's track and field team finished in third place with 115 points at the 2015 Sparky Adams Invitational at George Finnie Stadium hosted by Baldwin Wallace University.
Freshman Zak Hurd (Perry, Ohio/Perry) finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.15.
In the 200-meter dash, the Spartans finished third, fifth and sixth. Junior Jonathan Freeman (Houston, Texas/Awty International School) crossed the finish line first with a time of 22.50, while freshman Adrian Cannon (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier Central) and sophomore Nathaniel Wahner (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) followed with times of 22.68 and 22.72, respectively.
Finishing first and second in the 3,000-meter run, sophomores Mitch Baller and Andrew Hamm (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual) crossed the line with times of 9:35.84 and 9:40.95. Freshman Ben Whitman (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) finished second in the 3,000-meter steelplechase with a time of 10:33.29 and sophomore Michael Girbino (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga) finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:34.03.
Grabbing the title in the 10,000-meter run, sophomore Bryan Kelly (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier) crossed the line with a time of 34:41.33.
The Spartans took fourth, fifth and sixth in the in the 400-meter hurdles. Senior Toby Kilroy (Lexington, Mass./Boston University Academy) finished first of the pack with a time of 1:00.73, and sophomores Daniel Samuel (Boca Raton, Fla./Pine Crest School) and Neil He followed with times of 1:01.26 and 1:03.61, respectively.
Junior Josh Malone (Berea, Ohio/Berea) finished second in the high jump clearing the bar set at 1.85 meters. Also in the high jump, seniors Garrett Gustafson (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) and Seth Kimble (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont) cleared 1.80 meters and 1.75 meters for fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Junior Jared Brucker (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) finished third clearing the bar set at 4.12 meters in the pole vault while senior Akash Menon (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) grabbed a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a best mark of 11.85 meters.
In the throws, senior Sam Reusser (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) finished finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.96 meters, seventh in the discus with a throw of 39.89 meters and eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 39.07 meters.
Junior Nicholas Heim (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) finished sixth in the hammer with a toss of 41.65 meters, while in the javelin throw freshman Pat Shober (New Castle, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) finished sixth in javelin with a throw of 43.09 meters. Freshman Alex Nesvisky (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) finished seventh in shot put with a mark of 12.73 meters.
The Spartans will now travel to Atlanta for the 2015 University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships held on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26.
