Spartan Men in Fifth Place After Day One of UAA Track and Field Championships

CHICAGO - Sophomore Graeham Heil (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) earned All-Univeristy Athletic Association honors in two events on day one of the UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Chicago at the Ratner Center.

The Case Western Reserve University men's track and field team is currently fifth place with 18 points after the first day of competition.

Heil finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.91 meters. Also finishing third in the long jump, with a new career-best, Heil leapt for 6.46 meters.

On the track, senior sprinter Josh Malone (Berea, Ohio/Berea) broke the school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.86 seconds and will be competing in the finals during day two of the championships. Malone also broke the school record with a time of 7.28 seconds in the 60-meter dash. Both records were previously held by Matt Jurcak and set in 2012.

Sophomore Joe Ledger (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) set a new career-best in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.36.

In the weight throw, senior Sam Reusser (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) tossed for a career-best mark of 13.92 meters and a fourth-place finish.

The Spartans will conclude the 2015 UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships tomorrow, Sunday March 1 beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT.
