Dixon Wins 3,000m Steeplechase, Spartan Men Open Outdoor Campaign at W&L Carnival

LEXINGTON, Va. — Senior captain David Dixon (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the Case Western Reserve University men's track & field team opened the 2014 outdoor campaign at the Washington & Lee University Carnival on Friday and Saturday.

Dixon bested a field of eight with a time of 9:45.08.

Two other Spartans turned in top-three finishes in field events.

Fresh off of competition at the indoor national meet, senior Harry Weintraub (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) placed runner-up in the hammer throw with a mark of 181 feet, six inches.

Junior Mark Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Venango Catholic) came in third in the pole vault by clearing the bar at 14'5".

CWRU will next compete on Saturday, March 29 at the Don Frail Invitational hosted by Marietta College at Don Drumm Stadium.
