Weintraub and Malone Highlight Spartans' First-Place Finish at BW Mid-January Meet

BEREA, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University men's track & field team won five individual events en route to a first-place finish at Baldwin Wallace University's Mid-January Meet held at the Harrison Dillard Track on Friday evening. 

Senior captain Harry Weintraub (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) won the weight throw competition with a winning mark of 59 feet and three-quarters of an inch. That throw currently ranks Weintraub in the top 10 nationally. Fellow senior captain Andrew Barnhart (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) rounded out the Case field victories with a triple jump of 40'8.25".

In distance events, senior captain David Dixon (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:02.33. Freshman Bryan Kelly (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier) placed first in the 5000m run in 16:33.52.

In sprints, sophomore Devon Belew (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill) finished first in the 400m dash in 52.06. Meanwhile, junior Joshua Malone (Berea, Ohio/Berea) broke a school record in the 55m dash with a quarterfinal time of 6.44 seconds. His finals time of 6.82 was good for a fourth–place finish. 

The Spartans next compete on Saturday, February 1 when they take on University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) in the Battle for the Obelisk at 3:00 p.m. at the Veale Center.
