CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University men's track & field team won six events with six additional top-three finishers at the season-opening Spartan Holiday Lid Lifter on Saturday at the Veale Center.
Sophomore Austin Olshavsky (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and freshman Joe Ledger (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) each earned a top spot in distance events as Olshavsky recorded a 2:03.15 in the 800-meter run and Ledger posted a time of 4:37.99 in the mile run. Junior Alex Haufler's (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) 4:44.1 in the mile and freshman Scott Penfield's (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) 9:58.61 in the 3000m run were both good for second-place finishes.
Junior Mark Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Venango Catholic) and freshman Branson Repasy tied for the best pole vault of the day at 14 feet, six inches, while sophomore Jared Brucker (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) jumped 14 feet for third place.
In the high jump, juniors Seth Kimble (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont) and Garrett Gustafson (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) tied for first place with jumps of 6'0". Senior Andrew Barnhart (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) and junior Akash Menon (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) also placed in the top three in the triple jump.
In the throwing portion of the meet, senior David Leishman (Rock Creek, Ohio/Geneva) bested the weight throw field with a career-best mark of 48'0.5" and placed second in the shot put at 43'06".
The Spartans are now idle until January 24 for the BW Mid-January Meet in Berea.
