Spartan Men’s Track & Field Opens Winter at SPIRE Midwest Open

GENEVA, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University men's track & field team officially opened the 2012 season with a small contingent of competitors at the SPIRE Midwest Open on Friday and Saturday at the SPIRE Institute Facility.

Senior captain Matthew Jurcak (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) turned in the Spartans' top performance of the weekend with a third-place time of 8.34 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.

Sophomore Andrew Barnhart (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) took seventh in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, eight and one-half inches.

The entire squad is in action next Saturday, February 4 with the annual Battle for the Obelisk versus rival Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) at 11:00 a.m.
