INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The field has been announced for the 2011 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Amongst the 796 participants are four from Case Western Reserve University. Senior Justine Jeroski (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) along with juniors Erin Hollinger (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon), Ty Shaffer (Myersville, Md./Middletown Senior) and Matt Jurcak (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) will represent the Spartans on Thursday-Saturday, May 26-28 at Selby Field and George Gauthier Track in Delaware, Ohio.
Jeroski, a 2010 cross country All-American, will compete in the 5,000-meter run. With a total of 21 qualifiers in the event, Jeroski enters with the 19th-place time of 17:14.95. The race is the final individual event of the meet on Saturday at 4:40 p.m.
Hollinger, a 2009 All-American in the high jump, returns to nationals tied for the second-best mark in the 22-person field after leaping five feet, eight inches (1.71m) at the Gator Invitational two weeks ago. The high jump begins at noon on Saturday.
Shaffer, the 2011 University Athletic Association champion in the 400m hurdles, enters this weekend's event with the 14th ranked time of 53.13 seconds. The preliminary run is set for 7:15 p.m. on Thursday with finals slated for 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Jurcak, like Shaffer, will get his first taste of national competition. Jurcak ranks seventh in the 110m hurdles at 14.49. The preliminary run is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday with finals slated for 2:15 p.m. on Saturday.
During the past two years, the Spartan track & field program has produced five All-Americans combined between the indoor and outdoor championships. At last year's outdoor meet, then senior Obinna Nwanna was crowned national champion in the decathlon.
