PITTSFORD, N.Y. – A trio of Case Western Reserve University track & field competitors were selected as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week, announced the league office on Monday, March 28. Senior Justine Jeroski (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional), as well as juniors Amanda Kline (Lancaster, OH) and Matt Jurcak (Olmsted Falls, OH/Olmsted Falls) each grabbed the honor after a successful weekend trip to the Virginia Military Institute/ Washington & Lee Carnival in the team's outdoor season-opener.
The Spartan men and women combined for 45 top-10 finishes, five event wins and two meet records, while Jeroski and Kline both posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
Jeroski, a distance specialist, defeated 29 competitors to win the 5,000-meter run, finishing the race with a time of 17:25.87.
Kline set a meet record and defeated 16 entries in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, five and three-quarter inches. She also defeated 20 competitors in the discus throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 140-05 and was runner-up in the hammer throw at 151-00.
On the men's side, Jurcak won the 110m hurdles in a meet record time of 15.16 seconds and placed third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.41.
The Spartans will pick back up with the outdoor portion of their schedule on Saturday, April 2 at the DePauw University (IN) Invitational. The day's first event is scheduled to kick off at 11:30 a.m.
