Case Western Reserve Track and Field Opens Season with Early Bird Pentathlon

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the 2010-11 season on Saturday, December 4 at the Case Early Bird Pentathlon with competing teams from SUNY Fredonia, Ohio Northern University and Allegheny College.

Individually, junior Michael Cohara (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) was Case's top finisher, totaling a personal record 2,830 points to finish fourth overall. The junior was first in the field in the shot put with a toss of 37-10.75. Toby Kilroy also turned in an eighth-place performance, highlighted by his finish of third with a time of 2:58.18 in the 1,000 meter run.

On the women's side, sophomore Jenna Pansky (Parma, OH/Beaumont) finished eighth overall to lead the Spartans. Pansky took third in the high jump (4-10.25) and shot put (28-01.50), also scoring a fourth-place finish in the long jump portion of the event with her mark of 15-02.

CWRU track and field will now have a break in competition until January 22 when the team hosts the Spartan Relays at the Veale Center. The first event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
