Spartan Track & Field Teams Compete at Greater Cleveland College Championships

BEREA, Ohio – Select members of the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the 2011 Greater Cleveland College Championship on Friday, February 18 at the Harrison Dillard Track.

For the women, sophomore Corin Bowen (Midland, MI/Bullock Creek) bested 13 other competitors in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:40.36, nearly five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Sophomore Valoryn Whitelock (Lexington, OH/Lexington) won the 55m hurdles in 9.12 seconds, while junior Samantha Friedman (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) was third in the 200m dash (28.09) and fourth in the 55m dash (7.82). At mid-distance, senior Alyssa Wozniak (Allison Park, PA/Deer Lakes) placed fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:30.79

For the men, senior Erik Williams (Detroit, MI/Detroit County Day) placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 23.87 and fourth in the 55m dash with a mark of 6.85. Freshman Nathan Smith finished fifth in the 800m run in 2:06.29.

Junior Peter Walls (Anchorage, AK/Grace Christian) was runner-up in the mile run in 4:38.05 and was followed by sophomore Jonathan Frey (Chester, MD/Kent Island) and freshman Dishen Lin (Syosset, NY/Syosset) with respective times of 4:38.87 and 4:39.42.

Junior Chris Wade (Berea, OH/Berea) was runner-up in the 3000m with a time of 9:12.05 and freshman Corey Williams (Massillon, OH/Perry) was fourth in 9:26.59.

In the 55m hurdles, junior Nick Nelson (Urbana, OH/Urbana) placed second in 8.15 and was followed by another junior, Michael Cohara (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville), who took third in 8.63.

Sophomore Nick Errico (Londonberry, NH/Londonberry) was third in the pole vault with a mark of 12-11.50 and classmate Cameron Lee (New Brighton, MN/Irondale) was runner-up in the triple jump at 42-01.50

The Spartans are back in action at the 2011 University Athletic Association Championship Meet on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26-27 at the University of Chicago (IL). Prelims are set for 10:00 a.m. each day and will be followed by finals at 2:00 p.m.
