Hopper Named the UAA Athlete of the Week for Men’s Tennis

Case Western Reserve University first-year James Hopper was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for Men's Tennis after leading the ninth-ranked Spartans to a 7-2 win over Occidental College in Altamonte Springs, Florida on Sunday.

Hopper picked up wins at no. 1 singles and no. 1 doubles during the match. He teamed with Matthew Chen to defeat Lucas Chmielewski and Mathew O'Connor 8-7 in the first doubles match, and then went on to top Chmielewski in straight sets at no. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-0.

For the season, Hopper is 19-3 in singles play, and 26-2 in doubles matches, including a 21-2 mark with Chen. This was the fourth time this season he has been named the UAA Athlete of the Week.

The Spartans currently stand at 13-1 overall this season, and are continuing their Spring Break Trip today with matches against 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon and Division I Lehigh.
