#12 Spartans Return to Cleveland Friday to Face Wooster & Oberlin

The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team, ranked 12th in Division III, will return home to Cleveland this weekend to face the College of Wooster and Oberlin College on, Friday, February 14 at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion. The Spartans are slated to take on Wooster at 1:00 p.m., followed by a 5:00 matchup against Oberlin.

The Spartans stand at 3-0 on the season after claiming 9-0 wins over Northwestern Ohio (ranked 23rd in Division III) and Hope, and a 7-2 victory against Rose-Hulman last weekend. CWRU swept all nine of the doubles matches over the three contests and went 16-2 in doubles play during the weekend.

Case Western Reserve has been led in singles play by first-year James Hopper (17-1), junior Matthew Chen (9-4) and sophomore Aaron Umen (10-3). Hopper and Chen have each gone 19-1 in doubles matches this season, and are undefeated against Division III competition in 2019-20. As a team, the Spartans are 83-30 (.735) in singles matches and 51-15 (.773) in doubles contests this year.

Wooster will be opening its spring season on Friday, and stands at 1-0 on the year after claiming a 4-3 win over Division II Walsh in the fall. Junior Joaquin Amos Abo leads the team with a 4-3 singles record, while sophomores Austin Hannah and Alon Liberman have gone 3-2 in doubles play.

Oberlin is 1-2 in 2019-20, including a 4-3 win over Findlay in the fall and losses of 7-2 to Carnegie Mellon and 4-3 to Ashland in the spring. Sean Billerbeck leads the team in singles wins with a 6-5 record, while in doubles play, the combination of James Dill and Elliot Nuss has gone 5-4.
