The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team will enter the 2020 spring season ranked 12th in Division III, according to the Oracle/ Intercollegiate Tennis Association Preseason Rankings, released on Thursday afternoon.

The national ranking comes on the heels of an extremely successful fall season for the Spartans, during which junior Matthew Chen and first-year James Hopper won the ITA Cup Division III Doubles Championship, and Hopper claimed the ITA Fall Regional Singles title. As a team, the Spartans finished the spring with a combined 67-28 (.705) singles record and a 42-15 (.737) mark in doubles matches.

Earlier in the winter, Chen and Hopper were announced as the top-ranked doubles pairing in Division III, while junior Jonathan Powell and senior Zach Hennessey were ranked seventh in the Central Region. In singles play, Hopper is ranked fifth nationally and first in the Central Region, while Chen is 22nd nationally and fifth in the region.

The Spartans are coming of a 21-9 record during the 2019 season. The team finished fifth at the University Athletic Association Championships and ended the year ranked 12th in Division III.

Case Western Reserve is scheduled to open its 2019 spring season on Friday, February 7th against Northwestern Ohio.
