Men’s Tennis to Take Part in Two Weekend Competitions

Anthony Kanam hits a forehand shot.

The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team will split its squad between two different venues this weekend, traveling to the Rocket Invitational in Toledo, Ohio from Friday, September 20th through Sunday, September 22nd, and the Oberlin Invitational in Oberlin, Ohio on Saturday and Sunday.

The Rocket Invitational, hosted by the University of Toledo, will feature a hidden dual format, with matches counting towards individual records, but not towards the team record.  On Friday at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Maumee, Ohio, CWRU is scheduled to face Valparaiso at 1:00 p.m. and Wayne State at 3:00 p.m.  On Saturday, CWRU will play on the Toledo varsity tennis courts, facing Toledo at 9:00 a.m., Eastern Illinois at 11:30 a.m. and Chicago State and Youngstown State at 3:30 p.m.  Sunday's schedule will be determined over the weekend.  All five of the Spartans' scheduled opponents at the Rocket Invitational are NCAA Division I teams.

Seniors Anthony Kanam and Zach Hennessey, juniors Matthew Chen, Earl Hsieh and Jonathan Powell, sophomore Aaron Umen and first-year James Hopper are slated to compete for the Spartans in Toledo.

Competitors at the Oberlin Invitational will play three singles and three doubles matches apiece, using the University Tennis Rating (UTR) system to determine competitive matchups among competing schools.  Senior Henry Squire, juniors Austin Lawrence and Aris Jhaveri, sophomores Chaitanya Aduru and Max Vicario and first-years Diego Maza, John Kasner, and Michael Sutanto are all scheduled to compete at the event for the Spartans.

Results from each of the two events will be posted to following the completion of competition each day, while a recap of the Spartans' performances will be available at the end of the weekend.
