Men’s Tennis to Open Campaign at Villanova Invite

The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team will get its 2019 fall campaign underway this weekend, when the team travels to Villanova, Pennsylvania for the Ninth-Annual Villanova Invitational from Friday, September 13th through Sunday, September 15th.

Scheduled to compete for the Spartans are senior Sam Concannon, juniors Matthew Chen, Earl Hsieh and Aris Jhaveri, sophomores Aaron Umen and Max Vicario, and first-years James Hopper and Diego Maza.

This will be the first time that the Spartans will be attending the event, which will feature a number of Division I programs.

The format of competition will feature two 16-team draws, with players divided into doubles teams.  Each doubles team will face a doubles pairing from another school, followed by the two doubles players each facing off in a singles match against their counterparts.  The team that wins at least two of the matches will advance to the next round, with the losing team falling to the back draw.

Case Western Reserve ended the 2019 spring season with a 21-9 overall record, and were ranked 12th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll of the campaign.  Chen qualified individually for the NCAA Division III Singles Championships at the end of the year, and was ranked 30th in the final ITA singles rankings.

Results will be posted daily to athletics.case.edu, and recap of the Spartans' performances will be posted to the website after the completion of competition on Sunday.
