CWRU Men’s Tennis Climbs in National Rankings

The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team rose in the most recent edition of the Oracle/ Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III rankings, climbing to 12th in the country in the top-40 list released on Thursday.

The ranking is the highest of the season for the Spartans, and marks a two-spot improvement from the last rankings release two weeks ago.

The Spartans have won five-straight matches against Division III teams, improving to 15-6 overall.  Four of the five matches have come against nationally-ranked opponents, including a 7-2 win over 27th-ranked Kalamazoo College last Sunday.

CWRU also checked in at fifth in the latest Central Region rankings.  Individually, sophomore Matthew Chen was ranked sixth in the region, while freshman Aaron Umen was ranked 25th.  In doubles play, junior Anthony Kanam and sophomore Jonathan Powell were the sixth-ranked duo in the Central Region, while the combination of Chen and junior Zach Hennessey are ranked 12th among doubles pairings.

CWRU will face a pair of tests on Saturday in Chicago, Illinois, facing the second-ranked University of Chicago and sixth-ranked Washington University.
