#14 CWRU to Take on DI Cleveland State & #27 Kalamazoo this Weekend

The 14th-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team will have a pair of matches in Cleveland this weekend, playing at Cleveland State University (a Division I program) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6th and hosting 27th-ranked Kalamazoo College on Sunday, April 7th at 10:00 a.m.

The Spartans will face the Vikings at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion, and are scheduled to host Kalamazoo at the Carlton Courts on the CWRU campus.  However, if weather on Sunday prevents the teams from playing outside, the CWRU-Kalamazoo match will be played at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion as well.

Fans can follow both matches with live results at https://athletics.case.edu/sports/mten/live.

A pair of matches originally scheduled for Friday, April 5th against Ohio Wesleyan and John Carroll were cancelled.  The John Carroll match may be made up later in the season.

The Spartans have won four-straight matches, three of which have come against nationally-ranked teams, to improve to 14-5 overall on the season.  Included in their overall record is a 5-5 mark against top-40 ranked Division III teams this year.  In addition to being ranked 14th nationally, the Spartans checked in at fifth in the latest Central Region rankings.  The CWRU lineup features the region's 11th-ranked player in sophomore Matthew Chen and the 16th-ranked player in junior Anthony Kanam, in addition to a pair of regionally-ranked doubles duos in no. 4 Kanam and sophomore Jonathan Powell and no. 13 Chen and junior Zach Hennessey.

Cleveland State is 12-7 overall on the season, including a 6-2 mark in home matches.  The Vikings will be returning home after winning three-straight road games, with victories at Kennesaw State, Green Bay and Youngstown State.  Nico Mostardi has been the team's no. 1 singles player, going 19-10 overall, while Clark Bilinovich has paced the team with a 23-8 singles record.  The no. 1 doubles team of Mostardi and Benjamin Slade has gone 14-7 this season.

Kalamazoo is ranked 27th overall in Division III and seventh in the Central Region, and are 3-4 overall on the season.  The Hornets are coming off back-to-back losses at third-ranked Emory and 18th-ranked Sewanee, and are scheduled to play conference matches against Calvin on Wednesday and Trine on Saturday, prior to facing the Spartans on Sunday.  Kalamazoo's lineup features the region's third-ranked singles player in Ian Yi and the 19th-ranked player in Daniel Henry, while the two also combine to form the 10th-ranked doubles pairing in the region.

The Spartans will be looking to avenge a 5-4 loss to Kalamazoo last season in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Full results and a recap of the matches this weekend will be posted to athletics.case.edu following the completion of competition each day.
