Men’s Tennis Completes Play at ITA Central Regionals

The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team completed play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Central Regional Championships in St. Louis, Missouri on Sunday.

Overall for the weekend, the Spartans went 26-12 in singles matches (good for a .684 winning percentage), while tallying a 15-5 (.750 winning percentage) record in doubles play.

Sophomore Matthew Chen and junior Zach Hennessey, seeded 11th overall, reached the semifinals of the main doubles draw before falling to the top-seeded pairing of Chicago's Tyler Raclin and Jeremy Yuan, 8-3 on Sunday.  The Spartans' duo finished the weekend with a 4-1 record.

Also on Sunday, CWRU senior Rob Stroup won the singles consolation draw, finishing the weekend with a 5-1 record in singles play.  In addition, freshman Kenneth Boyette and sophomore Earl Hsieh claimed an 8-3 victory over Transylvania's Arjun Gupta and Hugo Kouhkna to win the doubles consolation draw, going 5-1 over the course of the tournament.

Last weekend's play concluded the fall intercollegiate season for the Spartans, as the team finished their non-traditional fall season with a combined .667 singles winning percentage (60-30) and a .779 mark (53-15) in doubles matches.  Case Western Reserve will resume intercollegiate play in the spring.
