Chen & Hennessey Advance to ITA Doubles Semifinals

Case Western Reserve University sophomore Matthew Chen and junior Zach Hennessey, the 11th-seeded pairing in the doubles draw, advanced to the semifinals at the ITA Fall Central Region Championships on Saturday in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Spartans' duo claimed a pair of wins on Saturday, defeating teammates Chaitanya Aduru and Sam Concannon 8-4 in the round of 16, and then taking out 15th-seeded Timothy Cianciola and Mitchell Thai of Denison, 8-4 in the quarterfinals.  Next up for the duo will be a semifinals matchup against top-seeded Tyler Raclin and Jeremy Yuan of Chicago at 3:00 p.m. CT on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the doubles championship match later in the day.

Also in doubles action for the Spartans, the second-seeded pairing of junior Anthony Kanam and sophomore Jonathan Powell topped Millikin's Jacob Palley and Colin Sandgren 8-4 in the round of 16, before falling in the quarterfinals to Chicago's seventh-seeded duo of Erik Kerrigan and Ninan Kumar, 8-2.

In singles play, 23rd-seeded freshman Max Vicario was the lone Spartan to reach the round of 16 of the main singles draw, defeating Chen (the 12th seed) in straight sets earlier in the day, 6-3, 6-1, before falling to seventh-seeded Yuan of Chicago 6-2, 6-4.
