Five Individuals & Three Doubles Teams Advance in Main Draws at ITA Regionals

Five singles players and three doubles pairings from the Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team are still alive in the main draw after one day of competition and two rounds of play at the ITA Central Region Championships in St. Louis, Missouri.

Advancing singles players including 12th-seeded sophomore Matthew Chen, 21st-seeded sophomore Jonathan Powell, 23rd-seeded freshman Max Vicario, unseeded junior Sam Concannon and unseeded sophomore Earl Hsieh, all of whom went 2-0 during the day. 

Hsieh will face top-seeded Jake Zalensky of Kenyon in the round of 32 on Saturday, while Powell will take on 11th-seeded Ian Yi of Kalamazoo, and Concannon will square off against 16th-seeded Shramay Dharwan of Chicago.  In addition, Vicario and Chen will face each other in the round of 32.

Three of the Spartans' doubles teams reach the round of 16 with a pair of wins on Friday, including second-seeded junior Anthony Kanam and Powell, 11th-seeded Chen and junior Zach Hennessey, and unseeded freshman Chaitanya Aduru and Concannon.  Aduru and Concannon will face Chen and Hennessey in the round of 16 on Saturday, while Kanam and Powell will play Jacob Palley and Colin Sandgren.
