#18 CWRU Men’s Tennis to Host NYU & Ohio Wesleyan in UAA Tune-Up

The 18th-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team will host its final two matches before the 2018 University Athletic Association Championships, facing New York University at 8:30 a.m. and Ohio Wesleyan University at 1:30 p.m. indoors at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, April 21st.

Saturday will also mark 'Senior Day' for the Spartans, who will honor the team's lone graduating player, James Fojtasek, between matches.  Fojtasek, a three-time All-UAA Second Team selection (twice for doubles and once for singles) will enter the weekend with a 62-42 career singles record and a 77-36 mark in doubles play, currently ranking fifth in school history in both singles and doubles wins.  In addition, he is eighth in school history with a .681 doubles winning percentage, and 17th with a .596 singles winning percentage.  Fojtasek went 27-4 in doubles matches in 2015-16, marking the ninth-most doubles victories in a season in program history, while his .871 winning percentage was the best-ever by a Spartan.  His 20 singles victories during the 2013-14 campaign rank as the 12th-most in school history.

The Spartans, ranked 18th in Division III and fifth in the Central Region, will enter Saturday's matches with a 13-9 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in home matches.  As a team, CWRU has gone 173-101 (.631) in singles play and 88-58 (.603) in doubles action.  The Spartans' lineup features a pair of regionally ranked singles players in Fojtasek (14th) and freshman Matthew Chen (22nd).  Sophomore Anthony Kanam leads the team with a 25-8 singles record, and is five singles wins away from the program single-season record of 30, set by CJ Krimbill during the 2015-16 campaign.  Sophomore Sam Concannon has added a 24-8 singles record.  Freshmen Jonathan Powell and Neil Mabee lead the team with a 12-3 doubles record, with Chen and Concannon contributing a 10-4 doubles mark as a pairing this year.

New York University is 4-6 on the year, including a 2-5 mark in road contests.  The team is ranked 15th in the Northeast Region, and the lineup features Umberto Setter, the 15th-ranked singles player in the region.  As a squad, the Violets have gone 41-56 (.423) in singles play and 19-26 (.422) in doubles action.  Setter leads the team with a 13-5 singles record, while Rahul Das and Vishal Walia have gone a team-best 6-2 in doubles action.

Ohio Wesleyan is ranked 18th in the Central Region, and will enter Saturday's match against CWRU with a 15-7 overall record, including a 2-4 ledger in road contests.  The Battling Bishops are 103-73 (.585) as a team in singles play and 44-43 (.506) in doubles matches.  The team's top-singles player in Shouta Fukamachi, who is ranked 16th in the region and has a 17-8 record.  Fukamachi has also teamed with Jack Hibbard to go 6-1 in doubles matches as the team's no. 1 pairing.

NYU and Ohio Wesleyan will also face each other at 7:00 p.m. at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
