#20 CWRU Men’s Tennis Adds Sunday Match vs. Franciscan

The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team, ranked 20th in Division III, has added a match to its schedule this weekend, and will now play host to Franciscan University on Sunday, April 8th at 12:30 p.m.

The match will be played indoors at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion on the Cleveland State University campus.

The Spartans are ranked 20th in Division III and fifth in the Central Region, according to the latest rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, released last week.  CWRU stands at 9-8 overall, following a 2-1 showing last weekend, which includes wins of 8-1 over Haverford and 6-3 over 21st-ranked Swarthmore, and a 6-3 loss to seventh-ranked Amherst.  The team has a .613 winning percentage in singles play (152-96) and a .565 mark in doubles contests (74-57).  CWRU's lineup features two regionally-ranked singles players in senior James Fojtasek (12th) and freshman Matthew Chen (19th), while the two also form the 15th-ranked doubles pairing in the Central Region.

Franciscan currently stands at 7-8 and will have conference matches against Pitt.-Greensburg and Pitt.-Bradford on Thursday and Friday before facing the Spartans on Sunday.  The Barons have a 46-44 (.511) singles record this season and a 25-20 (.556) doubles ledger.  John Gallagher leads the team with a 10-3 singles mark in 2017-18, while Jake Haffner and Jarek Sulak are 5-4 as the team's top doubles pairing.

CWRU and Franciscan will be facing each other for the first time since the second round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships, when the Spartans topped the Barons 5-0 at the Carlton Courts.

Results and a recap of the match will be posted to athletics.case.edu following the completion of competition on Sunday.
