Case Western Reserve is currently ranked 15th among NCAA Division III teams and is the fourth-ranked team in the Central Region.  The Spartans opened their spring season last weekend against a pair of Division I teams, dropping a 5-2 match to Northern Illinois University and a 6-1 contest to Cleveland State University.  Including the fall, as a team, the Spartans hold a .589 winning percentage in singles matches (93-65) and a .530 winning percentage (44-39) in doubles action.  Sophomore Anthony Kanam leads the team with a 12-4 record, including a 1-1 mark in the spring, while freshman Matthew Chen is 7-4 on the year, including a win at no. 2 singles against a Division I opponent last week.

Oberlin stands at 1-4 on the year, including a split of a pair of matches last weekend, with a 7-2 win over Wabash and an 8-1 setback against 26th-ranked Kalamazoo College.  The Yeomen were ranked 10th in the first Central Region rankings of the spring season.  Leading the squad in singles victories during the year have been senior Michael Drougas and sophomore Zachary Vaughn with six wins apiece.  The two teams played each other last season, with the Spartans claiming a 6-3 victory over Oberlin.

Wabash stands at 2-2 on the year, following a pair of losses last weekend to Oberlin on Saturday and Kalamzoo (6-3) on Sunday.  Juniors Jordan Greenwell and Patrick McAuley lead the team with four singles wins apiece, while McAuley has teamed with senior Williams Reifeis to go 4-0 in no. 1 doubles matches so far in the spring.  The Spartans picked up a 7-2 win at Wabash last season.

Chicago, ranked ninth in Division III and second in the Central Region, has opened its campaign with a 2-0 record, including a 9-0 win over Hope College last weekend.  The Maroons will also face Denison University on Friday, prior to taking on the Spartans on Saturday.  The team's lineup features numerous ranked singles players, including no. 6 freshman Jeremy Yuan, no. 12 sophomore Erik Kerrigan, no. 26 sophomore Ninan Kumar, no. 27 sophomore Alejandro Rodriguez and no. 43 junior Charlie Pei, along with the top-ranked doubles pairing of Yuan and sophomore Tyler Raclin, and the 18th-ranked duo of Kerrigan and Kumar.  CWRU and Chicago did not face each other last season, but split a pair of matches in 2016, with the Spartans falling 7-2 in the first contest, and claiming a 5-4 victory in the second meeting.

Results and a recap of each match will be posted to athletics.case.edu following the completion of competition each day.
