No. 6 Men's Tennis Extends Win-Streak to Eight With Wins Over Cerritos and Whittier

The No. 6 Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team extended its winning-streak to eight-straight matches with a 6-3 win over Cerritos College and a 9-0 win against Whittier College on Tuesday.

With the win, the Spartans are now 10-1 overall and in doubles play CWRU has won 21-straight matches sweeping doubles competition in their last seven events.

Match 1 - CWRU 6, CERRITOS 3
The No.  1 doubles team of seniors CJ Krimbill and Louis Stuerke was back in action with a 8-6 win over Cerritos' Oleksandr Krasnov and Nikita Katnelson. With another 8-6 win for the Spartans at third doubles, juniors James Fojtasek and Phil Gruber defeated Agustin Lombardi and Mark Antoniuk. Sweeping doubles for CWRU in the tightest of the doubles matches, junior Freddy Daum and freshman John Benedetto outscored Aleks Trifunovic and James Zhang by a score of 9-8.

In singles play, Krimbill remains undefeated this spring at No. 1 singles having defeated Krasnov (7-6, 2-6, 6-4). Fojtasek and Stuerke picked up the fifth and sixth wins for the Spartans at second singles and fourth singles, respectively. Fojtasek outplayed Katnelson in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) and Stuerke earned a victory over Trifunovic (6-1, 5-7, 6-2). 

Match 2 - CWRU 9, WHITTIER 0
In doubles action, Krimbill and Stuerke defeated Andrew You and Samuel Farmer 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Fojtasek and Gruber claimed another 8-1 victory over David Stanko and Emilio Yanko in the third doubles match. Daum and Benedetto closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win in the third doubles match over Troy Chavez and Tyler Linscott.

In singles action, Krimbill outplayed You at first singles, 6-4, 6-1, and Stuerke claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Linscott at No. 4 singles.  Also claiming singles wins for the Spartans on Saturday were freshman Robert Stroup at third singles over Stanko (7-5, 5-7, 10-1), Fojtasek at second singles, 6-1, 6-1 over Farmer, junior Joshua Dughi at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-2 over Jeff Lee, and junior Kevin Dong at fifth singles, 6-4, 7-5 over Chavez.

The Spartans will continue play on their spring break trip with a match on Wednesday, March 9 at 11:30 a.m. against Irvine Valley College.
