Spartan Men's Tennis Drops 5-4 Decision to NAIA Concordia-Irvine

CONCORDIA, Ca. - The No. 9 Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team fell 5-4 to Concordia University Irvin, the ninth-ranked team in NAIA.

Junior Louis Stuerke (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) teamed with junior CJ Krimbill (Scottsdale, AZ /Desert Mountain) for an 8-6 win at first doubles and posted a three-set win at fourth singles, 6-0, 5-7, 6-2.

Junior Viswajit Simhadri (Saratoga, CA/Lynbrook) recorded a sweep at third singles, dropping only four games in a 6-3, 6-1 win.

Senior Bas van Lent (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) earned the Spartans' fourth point with an 11-9 super-tiebreaker win at fifth singles after splitting the first two sets, 6-3, 4-6.

CWRU dropped to 8-6 on the season with their third consecutive defeat. The Spartans fell 8-1 to UAA rival Washington University and 9-0 to undefeated Vanguard University, ranked fourth in NAIA.

The Spartans return to action in the 2015 Stag Hen Invitational on Friday at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, a tournament featuring eight nationally ranked teams, including seven of the top-13 in Division III. CWRU is seeded fourth and will face 11th-ranked Pomona Pitzer Colleges at 9 a.m. PST in a quarterfinal match on Friday.
